The Korean Road & Traffic Corporation's Gyeonggi Branch conducted a joint inspection of the routes for Sujin and Taepyeong elementary schools, proposing safety improvements.
Key points
•Inspected routes for Sujin and Taepyeong elementary schools
•Proposed safe pick-up/drop-off zones within school premises
•Implemented measures based on a three-year analysis of six accidents
On October 15, the Korean Road & Traffic Corporation's Gyeonggi Branch, along with the Gyeonggido Police Bureau, Gyeonggido South Green Union, Seongnam City, and Seongnam Sujeong Police Station, inspected traffic-prone areas around Sujin and Taepyeong elementary schools in Gyeonggi-do.
Based on the inspection results, the corporation proposed creating 'safe pick-up/drop-off zones within school premises' to address safety gaps after full prohibition of parking near these zones. The proposal also includes measures like installing speed bumps at crosswalks, designating no-parking zones for frequent illegal parking, and expanding pedestrian barriers.
The inspection followed a three-year analysis of six child pedestrian accident cases, focusing on solutions such as adding speed humps in front of uncontrolled crossings, designating no-parking areas where violations are common, and increasing pedestrian safety barriers.
