Key points

  • 39.2% of genAI users report harmful use
  • Different types of harmful use are prevalent among different age groups
  • Paid users experience more harmful use than free users

The survey revealed that among all generative AI users, 39.2% have experienced one or more types of harmful use, including photo/video manipulation, gambling analysis, and investment-related analysis.

Age-wise, teens and twenties were more likely to experience photo/video manipulation, while thirties and forties had higher rates of business document leaks and investment-related analyses. This highlights the need for both individual guidelines and societal regulations.

Paid users reported a higher rate of harmful use compared to free users, particularly in areas such as company document summarization and investment analysis. Professor Jo Se-jin from the Korean Society of Criminology emphasized the need for further research to understand the relationship between paid usage and harmful experiences.
