The Gangseo Youth Center in Seoul held a crisis case management training on September 17, targeting youth practitioners and parents.

Key points

  • Training attended by over 100 youth practitioners and parents
  • Focus on understanding youth culture and mental health issues
  • Emphasis on the need for family-school-community collaboration

The Gangseo Youth Center focused this training on enhancing understanding of rapidly changing youth culture and mental health. The event aimed to address common concerns faced by practitioners and parents when supporting adolescents, seeking practical solutions.

Participants included mostly youth counselors and psychologists, with some parents interested in improving their understanding of child-rearing. The two-part program first covered peer culture and mental health among teenagers by Yi Mi instructor Eshun Shi, explaining recent trends in youth daily life and culture. The second part was led by psychiatrist Chi Hyun Choi from Seoul Yuan Tower Mental Health Center, educating on the roles and communication methods for parents and adults to support healthy growth and recovery of adolescents during crises.

The training used a participatory approach with pre-questions and on-site Q&A sessions, focusing discussions on topics such as peer relationships, social media use, dating, sexual culture, mental health, and parent-child relations. These were key areas where practical responses could be discussed for application in real-world scenarios.
