The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) has unveiled the probe it developed for the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt, set for launch in 2028.

Key points

  • TII completes asteroid-landing probe
  • MBR Explorer spacecraft collaboration
  • Historic landing on Justitia

Designed and built entirely in Abu Dhabi, TII’s probe is scheduled to image two planets and seven asteroids, including a historic landing on 269 Justitia, making it only the seventh asteroid to be reached by a probe.

Justitia is one of the reddest objects observed in the main asteroid belt, suggesting it may have originated from the cold outer Solar System before migrating inward early in its formation.

TII’s CEO emphasized that this mission aims to develop and expand UAE's technological capabilities, highlighting the importance of challenging projects for advancing space technology.
