The Korean Food Foundation and the China Cultural Center in Korea co-hosted 'Spice Without Borders' to explore how spicy flavors have developed in both countries.

Key points

  • Understanding and exchanging Korean and Chinese culinary cultures through spicy flavors
  • Participants directly created representative spicy dishes from Korea and China
  • Continuing to run programs on Korean cuisine culture

On September 29, the Korean Food Foundation (Chairman Lee Kyu-min) and the China Cultural Center in Korea (Director Shin Hyo-kyang) organized 'Spice Without Borders: Korea × China - A Journey through Spicy Flavors.' The event aimed to examine how spicy flavors have evolved in both countries despite their geographical and historical proximity.

Participants created representative spicy dishes such as Korean mixed vegetable stir-fry, bibimbap, and Chinese marinated chicken. They experienced firsthand how spiciness is expressed using different ingredients and cooking methods from each country while enjoying cultural exchange through food preparation.

Korean Food Foundation Deputy Director Kim Gi-hoon stated that the event was a meaningful opportunity to understand and share culinary cultures between Korea and China. China Cultural Center Director Shin Hyo-kyang emphasized that food serves as an intimate medium for understanding different cultures and connecting people, hoping for deeper cultural exchanges in the future.
