Seoul National University's Hyungwon Choi, a PhD candidate at the Department of Chemistry, won the 'Best Poster Award' at the 38th European Peptide Symposium (EPS 2026), marking the first such award for a domestic institution.
Key points
•Seoul National University researcher Hyungwon Choi wins Best Poster Award
•First Best Poster Award for a domestic institution
•Mitochondrial function recovery peptide research recognized internationally
Hyungwon Choi, a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemistry at Seoul National University, received the ‘Best Poster Award’ at the 38th European Peptide Symposium (EPS 2026) held from September 6 to 11 in Vienna, Austria. This marks the first Best Poster Award for a domestic institution.
The European Peptide Symposium is an international academic conference that showcases research on peptide synthesis, structure, drug delivery, and other fields; it has been held biennially since 1958. Choi's presentation focused on peptides that restore mitochondrial function, suggesting new possibilities for stabilizing the inner mitochondrial membrane to recover damaged mitochondrial structure and function.
Camp Therapeutics CEO Jae-Hoon Ryu plans to accelerate development of next-generation peptide therapies based on this research. He also announced plans to deepen the mechanism of action for CMP3029 and proceed with subsequent studies.
