According to research announced by GFT Technologies, outdated legacy infrastructure has been identified as one of the biggest obstacles hindering corporate AI projects.

Key points

  • 84% of responding companies reported canceling AI projects due to legacy system limitations.
  • 93% believe a company faces an enterprise-wide security crisis without modernizing legacy infrastructure.
  • 89% are concerned that AI investments may grow faster than the value they create.

GFT Technologies announced new AI research findings based on a global study conducted by Wakefield Research. The survey was administered to 945 CIOs and CTOs from companies with annual revenues of $500 million or more across 19 countries from August 11 to August 31.

The survey results showed that 84% of responding companies reported having canceled their own AI pilots or projects due to the limitations of legacy systems. Furthermore, 93% believe that a company will face an enterprise-wide security crisis if it does not modernize its legacy infrastructure.

The study pointed out that while the potential and risks of AI are growing simultaneously, major inhibiting factors include, besides legacy infrastructure, skepticism regarding AI return on investment, geopolitical and regulatory uncertainty, and workforce distrust.
