Six products from Ulju Island—ginseng berries, three-leaf clover, umbrella cedar, umbrella magnolia, sea cucumber, and stone kelp—are now part of the Slow Food Ark of Taste.
•Opportunity for promoting biodiversity and traditional food culture
Ulju Island's unique agricultural products have gained international recognition. The six items added to the Slow Food Ark of Taste include ginseng berries, three-leaf clover, umbrella cedar, umbrella magnolia, sea cucumber, and stone kelp. These items represent Ulju’s distinctive ecosystem and traditional food culture.
The umbrella cedar is a larger version of its mainland counterpart, while the umbrella magnolia is unique to Ulju Island. Sea cucumbers and stone kelps were added due to their distinct characteristics shaped by the local environment.
This addition to the Ark of Taste provides an opportunity to highlight Ulju’s biodiversity and traditional food culture. The Korean Association for Slow Food plans to contribute to community revitalization and the spread of culinary traditions.
