Hyosung Heavy Industries has completed a performance test facility for its independently developed 2GW HVDC control system, enabling pre-testing of stability in an environment similar to the actual grid.

Key points

  • Hyosung Heavy Industries first-of-kind 2GW HVDC performance test facility
  • HILS system for pre-testing stability in real grid conditions
  • Supporting domestic HVDC technology and Seohae energy highway

Hyosung Heavy Industries has become the first domestic company to complete a performance test facility for a 2GW HVDC system based on proprietary technology. The High Fidelity Inverter Loop Simulation (HILS) system allows pre-testing of stability in an environment similar to actual operations.

The HILS system connects virtual 2GW converter valves and power grids with the actual HVDC control systems, enabling validation of stable responses under real operating conditions. This is expected to significantly enhance the reliability and safety of 2GW-scale systems.

Utilizing experience from a 200MW voltage-type HVDC installation at Yangju Substation, Hyosung Heavy Industries aims to support domestic HVDC technology advancement and the Seohae offshore energy superhighway project.
