The Korea Shipbuilding & Ocean Plant Research Institute (KRISO) announced on the 29th that it will host the '7th Future Ocean Idea Contest' for elementary, middle, and high school students nationwide.

The contest focuses on scientific and technological ideas aimed at solving future ocean problems and creating value. Applications will be accepted online until October 18.
This is an annual event hosted by KRISO, allowing students to propose ideas on how to create a better ocean using science and technology. The contest is divided into four fields: eco-friendly future ships, future ocean plants/energy, AI/advanced ocean ICT, and ocean safety and disaster response.
Participation methods allow elementary students to participate individually, while middle and high school students can participate individually or in teams of two. Judging will proceed through preliminary and main rounds, with the main round scheduled for November 7 at the KRISO Daejeon Headquarters. Main round participants will present their ideas, discuss them with experts, and tour research facilities and an idea gallery.
A total of 18 awards will be presented, with 9 awards each for the elementary and middle/high school divisions. Awards include the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Minister Award, Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Award, and the KRISO Director Award.
KRISO, established in 1973, is an institution that has contributed to the development of the domestic shipbuilding and ocean industry by conducting research and development in the field of shipbuilding and ocean plants. Through comprehensive research capabilities in areas such as eco-friendly and autonomous ships, and ocean plants/ocean energy, it is working to solve national issues and lead international standards.
