•Significant milestone in capital market development
Oman was selected by FTSE Russell as a potential candidate for secondary emerging market status after years of efforts aimed at improving market access, developing infrastructure, and enhancing liquidity.
The decision follows a multi-year institutional transformation program led by Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) under the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) and Estidamah. FTSE Russell confirmed in June 2026 that Oman met all necessary criteria for secondary emerging market status.
Mohammed Alardhi, Chairman of MSX, said the inclusion on the Watch List is a significant international recognition of progress made in developing Oman’s capital markets. Haitham Salim Al Salmi, CEO of MSX, emphasized that this milestone is just the beginning and their focus remains on building a deeper, more accessible market.
