Omdia expects mainland China PC shipments to grow 11% in the second quarter of 2026, but project a 6% decline for the full year.

Key points

  • Mainland China PC shipments in Q2 2026 reached 11.4 million units, an 11% increase.
  • The mainland China PC market is expected to decline 6% for the full year 2026.
  • The tablet market is forecast to contract to 32.5 million units in 2026, a 10% decline.

Mainland China PC shipments in the second quarter of 2026 reached 11.4 million units, an 11% increase year-over-year. Of this total, desktop shipments surged 42% and accounted for 4.3 million units, offsetting a 2% decline in notebook shipments, which accounted for 7.1 million units.

Meanwhile, the tablet market shrank by 13% to 8.0 million units due to weak demand and supply issues. Omdia forecasts mainland China PC shipments to decline to 39.7 million units and tablet shipments to decline to 32.5 million units in 2026.

Growth in the mainland China PC market was primarily driven by strong commercial demand and a 29% increase, supported by the government's XinChuang initiative, which supports the adoption of IT technologies, while the consumer segment saw a 2% decline.

Analyst Emma Xu explained that 'commercial PC demand is supporting overall market growth, and although consumer demand is weakening due to rising prices and the disappearance of subsidies, proactive inventory stockpiling mitigated the decline in the consumer segment in Q2.'

The tablet market faces greater challenges after years of growth, and is expected to weaken in 2026 due to reduced promotional activity from vendors and a shift from first-time ownership to replacement cycles.
