The UN refugee agency warns that funding shortages could lead to the suspension of critical support for nearly 8.3 million refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless people worldwide.
Key points
•UNHCR warns of crisis for 8.3 million refugees
•Only 32% of $8.5 billion needed by 2026 secured
•Core programs at risk in key regions like Chad, Ethiopia
UNHCR says only 32% of the $8.5 billion needed by 2026 has been secured, raising concerns about program cuts and the collapse of protection systems in key regions like Chad, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Syria.
In these areas, core programs such as child protection and livelihood support could be reduced or halted, with risks including delayed legal registration for 319,000 refugees in Chad.
Funding gaps also hinder efforts to help displaced people become self-reliant, leaving 162,500 Syrian returnees without cash assistance.
